Steck (warren) Buffet update

Work on the buffets has been slow going. There have been set backs as well as design challenges that have kept us scratching our heads. However, we can now officially prove that things are moving forward as the buffet end panels are finally complete. As usual it took longer than we anticipated. The coming weeks most likely will slow up a bit as both Jeff and Mike are planning on testing to become LEED accredited professionals. Matt will be also be testing in the near future as time allows. For those not familiar with the subject, LEED stands for "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design". LEED encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. It is a third party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Progress?

Slowly but surely we're moving along. The table legs have been cut for some time now. However, it seems we've spent most of our time gluing up the table top. In fact, we're still gluing. Utilizing our lunch hour at work as well as our regular Sunday work sessions, 120 individually cut boards will eventually get glued together to form what will be an impressive 10'-0" long table top . . . a topic of conversation for many holiday gatherings to come.

Steck Buffet(s)

Somewhere along the way the Steck table no longer became our only side project. Having barely started on the table, we were given another opportunity to design not one . . . but two buffets to complement the table already in progress. Continuing with a similar vocabulary, the buffet(s) utilize the same reclaimed barn board siding for the top while the shell contrasts in "new" wood that is stained in a darker tone.

Aren't Sundays supposed to be the day of rest?

After many bone chilling winter weekends in Jeff's unheated garage, we finally had enough boards cut and planed for the dining table and (2) buffet tops. In the end it took us several months to complete, however we finally made. It was at that time we also decide to move operations to Matt's basement . . . time to borrow Matts parent's van again!

In a matter of minutes a bull dozer turned the barn and farm house into a twist unrecognizable pile of debris. In the end it took the three of us two exhausting days days in the sun, however we were able to scavange two van loads full of barn board siding for what will eventually become a dining table and (2) buffet cabinets. Our thanks to the Matt's parents for lending us their van.

Demolished Barn

Located between Omaha and Gretna, NE, this barn as well as a farm house were demolished to make room for a new commercial/residential development.
